“Macros” What are they?
First off let me start by saying yes, a calorie is a calorie, duh. It’s not rocket science! Some genetically gifted people can seem to walk around saying they eat pop tarts and sour patch kids as a pre-workout followed by Krispy Kreme post workout. Look shredded year around and never do cardio!! But having been in the fitness industry the last 11 years I can assure you that’s not the key to finding your abs!!
I came across a post on Instagram a few days ago where someone compared a snickers bar to an acai bowl!? First off, that’s like comparing a snack size to a full meal. Of course, the acai bowl will contain not only more calories but in his point, more SUGAR! (I could go on and on about how people say sugar is sugar, which I agree). But the rest of the nutritional value that comes from various fruits is obvious! In our case at the MAD BEET, it’s meant to be a meal!! The freshest fruit, cleanest ingredients… can we say that about and over processed Snickers bar?! Ok point taken, right?!
So, to a simple break down of MACROS…
(And technically alcohol)
Each macronutrient yields a certain number of calories.
- One gram of protein yields 4 calories.
- One gram of carbohydrate yields 4 calories.
- One gram of fat yields 9 calories.
- One gram of alcohol yields 7 calories.
To keep it pretty simple for my clients who are looking to add more protein and lean out while maintaining muscle, I recommend 110-130 grams of protein for women and about 150-200 for men.
If I have to explain to you why fresh fruit is better than processed candy or junk then this probably isn’t the Blog for you 😉
You can easily look up online how to calculate your macros for loosing or gaining weight and or muscle!
Stay hydrated this holiday and make smarter choices when it comes to what you put in your body!!
Much love and healthiness!!
